LEGACY: Year 1 - However Long The Night!

It is a saddening thought that Africans were once enslaved by others. Within that sadness, a feeling of power, conviction and resilience can be felt by knowing that these enslaved Africans fought their oppressors on the shores of Africa, through the middle passage on European ships and on the North American continent (America and in Canada).

“However Long the night, the storm shall break” is an African proverb focused on in this poster. It relates to how slavery was the storm broken by the Black people’s resistance throughout history.

This poster features the three prominent revolts against the African slave trade, the resistance in Africa, the Caribbean, and America.

Question: Why do you think when slavery is discussed in classrooms the many revolts that occurred during slavery is not mentioned or elaborated on?
