Asian Heritage Month: Chinese-Canadians

Canada has declared the month of May Asian Heritage Month to acknowledge and honor people of Asian heritage who have contributed to Canadian life. This Legacy Poster is a homage to the history and life of Chinese Canadians. The anchor image depicts a Chinese woman against the backdrop of train tracks, a nod to Canadian Pacific Railroad that was constructed between 1863-69, largely using Chinese immigrant workers. The railroad is Canada’s first transcontinental railroad.

The poster also features Vivenne Poy, a Canadian businesswoman who served as a member of the Senate of Canada from 1998 to 2012;  Douglas Jung , a former military serviceman who became the first attorney of Chinese heritage to appear before the BC Court of Appeal in 1955; Adrienne Clarkson, a Hong Kong-born Canadian journalist who served as Governor-General in Canada between 1999 – 2005; David Lam, a Hong-Kong born businessman and the first Chinese Canadian to be appointed as a vice-regal in Canada.
